VeloElite Grand Opening – Saturday 24th February
February 2018 started out as quite a dark month for me and all those connected with Wellingborough Cycles when we all learned of the sad demise of the business. As workshop manager, I had some great times at the shop and will always look back on the place with great fondness.
I have always dreamed of one day owning my own business in the cycling industry, it’s all I have ever wanted to do, but with the closing of Wellingborough Cycles, I found myself with a tough decision to make. Do I go out and find another job, or do I grasp the opportunity, roll the dice and start my own business. What happened at Wellingborough Cycles and many other local bikes shops it’s a stark reminder that the cycle industry is changing and rapidly. More people are going online to purchase their goods so, after much thought and advice from friends, I decided to open a service driven business with a firm focus on all the areas in which the internet is of no help.
Just 3 weeks after Wellingborough Cycles closed its doors, VeloElite proudly opened for business!
I have been totally overwhelmed by the support and good will of all the customers from Wellingborough, who patiently waited for me to get open! I am also very grateful for the help and support from friends and family who have rallied around to help me make this happen!
The Future!
The famous Wellingborough Cycles “shop rides” will from this weekend officially move to our new HQ at Woodford Mill. We have the support of the excellent Woodford mill tea rooms cafe, Iona and her team have been extremely welcoming and serve some of the best coffee and cake going, you will be impressed! The terrace overlooking the river will be stunning in the Spring & Summer!
Naturally with the new location comes some much needed new and exciting ride routes to enjoy! We are also hoping everyone is looking forward to leaving the hustle and bustle not to mention the ever increasing road closures of Wellingborough behind! There is plenty of parking at the Mill, but can I just ask you all to use the top long stay car park!
I appreciate the new location will not be convenient for everyone, but on balance, I think the vast majority will absolutely love the new location, it really is brilliant for cyclists, I hope you will all give it a chance!
I will be opening the shop from 8am on a Saturday to offer assistance and fix bikes where needed and be a friendly face to new comers joining the rides. Toilet facilities will also be available! The local paper will also be sending a photographer, so make sure you all look your best!
What services are we be providing?
• A fully kitted workshop for bike servicing, repairs and builds
• A variety of bike fitting options from cleat setups to full motion capture bike fits
• Custom Wheel building
• Bike Box hire (for those trips away)
• Coaching as always with James
• A brand new club that will eventually take over from Wellingborough Cycles Club
• A range of new services that we are planning for the future!
I hope everyone loves the new shop and location as much as I do, thank you so much for your continued support….
